I keep saying that 16 and Pregnant isn’t all evil, like many parents and smarty-pants thinkers think. I think it shows a very real and gritty slice of life and sends a very clear message that teen parenting isn’t fun.
In this post from Pregnant Pause, a blog of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy they say this:
Our own research suggests that these shows help teens better understand the challenges of too-early pregnancy and parenthood. The findings from our public opinion polling (82% of those who had watched 16 and Pregnant said it made the challenges of teen pregnancy/parenthood more real to them) and our evaluation with the Boys and Girls Clubs (about 4 in 10 went home to discuss the shows with their parents!) underscore that young people find these shows gritty, not glamorous.
Did you hear that? Gritty not glamorous. Went home and talked to their parents about the show!
