Birth is the process of the baby coming out of the mom’s body. This is called labor and can be a lot of work and painful for the mother. Usually, the baby is pushed out of the mom’s body through her vagina. This is called vaginal birth.
The baby sends signals to the mom when it’s ready to be born and their bodies work together during the birth process. Birth can happen quickly or take a long time. When you were born. . .
The vagina is very stretchy and strong so it can open up to let the baby out. Her body is made to do this and knows exactly what to do. Even if the mom was unconscious, her body would push the baby out of her vagina.
Sometimes the baby or the mom will have problems and the doctor will need to take the baby out by doing surgery. This is called a “Cesarean Section” or “C-Section” for short. The doctor makes cut through the belly and into the uterus and takes the baby out of the mom’s body through her belly.
