Gender is how a person feels on the inside—like a boy or a girl or sometimes even a mix of both! It’s a natural part of who someone is—they are born with it.
We are told which gender we are when we are born based on our private parts. This tells us how to dress, act and look like our assigned gender.
Sometimes people people feel like they are in the wrong body for their gender. This is called being transgender or gender fluid. It’s pretty rare, but it happens.
Think about the things lots of girls like to do and think about the things lots of boys like to do. These “boy” things and “girl” things are based on gender. You can do anything you want, no matter which gender it “belongs” to.
It can be confusing if you think someone’s a boy, but then it turns out they are a girl. Your job is to be kind no matter what, even if you don’t understand someone’s gender.
