Let’s review your list of safe adults and make sure they are a good choice for you, now that you are older. They need to be someone you really will go to if you are worried about something, need help or have a problem.
Remember, safe adults don’t ask you to keep secrets, so if an adult asks you to keep something secret, you need to tell me or another adult immediately. You won’t get in trouble and I’ll make sure the adult gets help if they need it.
I won’t be mad or upset if you talk to one of your safe adults before you talk to me or your other parent about a problem you are having. I totally understand it can be easier to talk to someone other than me to help you figure out what to do. What matters is you are asking for help.
The rule with your safe adults is that they will tell me what’s going on with you if your problem is something that is dangerous to your health or safety. They will never come to me behind your back – you’ll know they are going to talk to me.
