A few people have asked me to create a home school sex ed curriculum for their kids. Nice idea, but I am definitely not safe for kids. But I am safe for you!
I have created some fun and engaging projects you can do on your own with your Kindergartners through 5th graders.
Homeschool Birds & Bees projects:
- Vetted age appropriate videos for your kids
- Book suggestions
- Birds & Bees related arts and crafts
- Recipes for snacks and dinner – that relate to some of the lessons
- Tips for you to get you excited about your new role as sex educator
- A special video for you gives you even more tips and ideas to make doing these projects (and having conversations) more comfortable for both of you.
You can easily work these ideas into your current lifestyle!
Here’s an example of one of the puberty projects (appropriate for 3rd-5th graders):
As you may recall puberty can be a baffling and uncomfortable change of life. Let’s make it more fun, shall we?
- Puberty quiz! Download this one and print it up!
- Write an opinion piece on some aspect of puberty for males or females. For example the social impact on girls of having their periods including the shame and secrecy around it. Or how the changing brain and hormones cause kids to be emotional (and crazy-town) and how parents can make this easier.
- Compile a list of every question they can think of about puberty. Tell them to think about what their friends would ask. This is a trick, actually. When you ask them what their friends think they are more willing to answer questions and have conversations. Then have them find the answer to five of them using the books they have. Not the internet.
You can change your kid’s life (and maybe even your own) through these quirky activities.
