How to Talk About: The Scrotum and Testicles

how to talk to kids about the scrotum and testicles

I’ve provided one quick explanation of each of the private parts rather than a beginner, intermediate and advanced scripts. I figure you don’t need much more than this to answer basic questions or give basic explanations.

The two testicles are the part of a male body that are below the penis, in a little sack made of skin called the scrotum. They are sometimes called “balls,” “nuts” or “nards.”

Their main job is to make sperm and a hormone called testosterone that helps a boy’s body change to a man’s body. They also make something called semen, a liquid that contains sperm. The testicles are very, very sensitive to touch and if they get hit or kicked will hurt like crazy.

The testicles are private and sensitive. Only you, your parent or the doctor should touch you here and only if you need help.
