Here’s why I think you should let your pubic hair grow in.
Let me start by saying I ALWAYS get in trouble when I give this advice. Of COURSE, I believe people should be able to do whatever they want with their bodies including removing every little hair everywhere. Kindly reserve your outrage for pro-forced birthers and the porn industry. Thank you.
However, for me, in order to have a healthy body image, kids should know pubic hair is a natural part of a body. The best way for them to understand that pubic hair is a normal and natural part of the body is to see it on someone. Or to see artistic photographs of people with pubes.
If you remove all your pubic hair kindly consider growing it back, especially if you are a vulva-haver. And it normalizes pubes.
I did some googling and this is the first thing that came up. Ug.

Benefits of shaving pubic area female – Is it good for a woman?
- Women do it because they believe their genitals look attractive after shaving. <<< Sure.
- A smooth and soft vagina looks more appealing to sexual partners. <<< NOT a vagina also “smooth and soft” creeps me out.
- Shaving results in a much cleaner appearance. <<< Insinuating it’s not clean down there.
- Since there is no hair, there is no more sweat and itchiness. <<< If it’s itchy, there may be a problem and it still gets sweaty!
- Pubic hair locks the sweaty smell of your vagina and produces a strong odor. So, shaving them eliminates that odor and makes you feel fresh. <<< Vagina’s stink.
- Shaving gives you a lot of advantages in dressing. You can flaunt different swimsuits and leggings.<<< Sure.
- Removing pubic hair increases sexual sensation resulting in a more pleasant experience. <<< Maybe for some people.
- There is no hair and there is no chance for a germ or lice attack. <<< Removal makes it easier to get STIs because the hair offers some protection, which is part of its job. And yes, less chance of a “lice attack”.
These negative messages about the vaginal area are some of the biggest reasons people remove their hair down there.
Help them be critical thinkers about pube removal and make thoughtful and informed choices about what to do with it if anything. They will see so much porn they will have a distorted view of bodies and think they should be hairless. Which is just not the case.
This is a new book by the “A Kids Book About” folks and Billie, the hair removal product folks. I think it’s pretty great and 100 percent of the net proceeds will go toward youth-development organizations.
