My journey to helping parents talk about sex with neurodivergent kids

I get what it’s like to feel completely lost when talking to your kid about sex — that was me! I’d been a sexuality educator for over 16 years, and after we had a child, it turned out that I was clueless about talking with kids. I was so surprised (and embarrassed) about my discomfort.

So, I put my years of experience to work, did some research, and figured it out for our family.

Then I realized other parents needed help, started Birds & Bees & Kids, and I’ve now helped thousands of parents tackle the sex talks.

When parents kept asking me how to talk with their neurodivergent kids about sex, I discovered there were no resources available for families like yours. Not a damn thing!

Your child is more vulnerable than a neurotypical child, and when any kid has information about sexuality, consent, and relationships, they are safer. And just like every kid, yours deserves to be safe and informed and become a whole, healthy, and happy adult.

Because of you, I’ve become passionate about helping neurodivergent families and kids. I earned a certification in neurodiversity and sexuality, ran a focus group to learn what you need, and created specialized resources specifically for parents of differently wired kids. And I’m constantly learning!
