The best parental controls and monitoring and why you need them

If you have monitoring and parental controls already installed, you are excused from this email. Good job. Perhaps you could share it with some other parents. They probably don’t have them installed.

What the fuck is it going to take to convince you to get monitoring and parental controls installed on the devices your kids use?**

Am I yelling? YES I AM!

I cannot figure out what it’s going to take to convince you to do this so I’m trying yelling and shaming.

I have never, ever received so many calls and emails about kids being exposed to porn. Never. Ever. Ever.

Did these folks have monitoring or parental controls installed on their family and kids’ devices***? Nope. None of them.

Are you in the same camp? No monitoring or parental controls? Are you thinking your kids “would never” because “they aren’t interested” or are “too young to be curious”?

You are fooling yourself and putting your kids at risk for porn exposure. Kids WOULD look (and do) they ARE interested and of course they are curious no matter how old they are.

Your child can see porn in about 4 – 5 clicks.

Don’t believe me? Follow along:

1) Search for boobs

2) Assuming you can see what I see, scroll down and click on the link 100+ Boob Pictures

3) Cool! Those are some sexy boobs! Let’s search for “Sexy Boobs”

4) The very first link? Porn!

This link goes to a porn site. Click on it because you need to see what they can see.

It’s your job to protect your kid online NOT their job to protect themselves.

If you are offended by this post, you would be better served to place your offense where it really should be: how easy it is for your kids to get to porn and other shitty stuff (and your magical thinking about it).

Am I being a dick? Yep. I am and I don’t care.

Is my ire for reals? Yep. It is. I’m confounded and heartbroken by this lack of concern.

Is this a sales pitch? Sorta – I get $20 for every sale but you get $20 off when you buy.

  • The Circle app allows you to manage screen time on all your WiFi and devices.
  • You can set limits and filter content across every device — all from one app.
  • You will be less stressed knowing that your kids are protected and you don’t have to wonder what they are doing and seeing online.
  • You can filter, track usage, set timers and see their history.
  • You will reduce the chance they will be exposed to porn and other yucky stuff.

Being exposed to porn can really mess a kid up – in some cases it is akin to sexual abuse and can have the same effect.

Most of the time when kids are exposed it’s not a big deal. But what if your kid becomes compulsive about it? Shows other kids? Thinks it’s “real” sex and expect this when they become sexual with someone?

I KNOW you don’t want any of this for your kids.

So, buck the fuck up and do what’s right for your kids and install monitoring and parental controls. Right. Now.

** School comps are another story. Hop on your kid’s see what happens when you search for “boobs” and be ready to make appropriate phone calls.
